There are many myths surrounding college admissions. If a college applicant believes these myths, it can cost him/her admission into competitive programs, money, and/or significant time.
Here, we debunk five myths related to college admissions and college applications:
1. Admissions essays don’t matter – quite the opposite, they grow in importance each year.
2. Test scores are the most important part of your application – absolutely false. In fact, test scores are becoming more obsolete each year, and schools are moving toward test-optional status.
3. The more extracurriculars the better – quality over quantity.
4. Ivy League schools are the most selective – other large and small schools across the nation have lower acceptance rates than some of the Ivies.
5. Average grades in hard classes are better than As in easy classes – this is only true if you consider a “B” an average grade.
